In Canada the most common type of application submitted is an application for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada Class or an application for permanent residence under the family class.
Who can be sponsored?
The following individuals might be able to be sponsored although in some cases they cannot:
- Spouses, common-law partners, and conjugal partners
- Parents and grandparents
- Children (unmarried and dependant)
- Orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild under the age of 18, single, related and both parents deceased
- you (the person who wants to sponsor your relative) don’t have a living relative you could sponsor, you can sponsor a distant relative in such a case but there are stringent requirements to be met
